8 Injured as Building Collapses In Delta

Yesterday in Asaba, Delta State, a section of a multi-story building that was under construction collapsed, resulting in injuries to approximately eight individuals. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. while construction workers were actively engaged on the site.

Although specific details about the incident were not immediately available, an eyewitness named Onyinye Okei shared that she and others who were selling goods nearby were startled by a sudden crashing noise. She mentioned that about eight people were injured in the incident and were promptly taken to the hospital by their colleagues.

Following an inspection of the building, the State Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Mr. Michael Anoka, attributed the collapse to structural defects. He reassured that there were no fatalities and stated, “The ministry is currently conducting an investigation. The government has already taken precautionary measures, as you can see, the premises have been cordoned off. Once our investigation is complete, we will provide a detailed report on today’s events.”

He further urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the government was already implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
